VERSAILLES CUFF

Thursday, September 4, 2014 - 10 am to 4 pm

Versailles Cuff was inspired by the idealistic and elaborate movie Marie Antoinette produced by Sofia Coppola and staring Kirsten Dunst. The production and ornate stage sets that Sofia Coppola created for her pop culture film has the baroque stamp of style. The word baroque is derived from the baroque (Portuguese) meaning imperfect pearl. In a nutshell, Baroque design is marked by curved and complex forms, bold ornamentation, many details and irregular shapes. I am also a huge fan of the romantic and refined interior of the Palace of Versailles just outside of Paris France, Marie Antoinette lived there for part of her life and the style of that palace is exquisite.

Versailles Cuff is constructed of decorative panels woven in peyote stitch with a decrease on the edge for a scalloped ridge. A faceted square stone is bezeled and attached to the peyote panels leaving open space for visual interest. Tiny freshwater pearls are stitched between each stone and a serpentine pattern of beads runs along the length of the bracelet. The clasps is a hinge and pin constructions that holds the bracelet securely together. The pin is secured to the bracelet by a fine flat cable chain. A button closure provides extra security.

The skill level for this workshop is Intermediate with a prerequisite in Peyote.

The cost of this workshop is $90.00 and can be combined with other full day workshops with Melanie for a discounted rate.

LABYRINTH (NECKLACE) with Melanie Potter

Friday, September 5, 2014 - 10 am to 4 pm

Labyrinths have a system of circular shapes and patterns that can signify the circle of life. This stately design compies a number of interesting circular shapes that are interconnected to create the whole.

The main section of the necklace constitutes a sequence of nettered chains that link together and connect in front with a bold circular tube. The ends of the netted chains terminate with pearl embellished three-dimensional hollow beads and long strands terminating with a baroque pearl that serve as a friction clasp. Thelarge and medium size baroque drop pearls serve as visual weight to balance the compoistion. Movement is added to the necklace with a netted tie that terminates in tassels with a finial and baroque fringe.

The skill level for this workshop is Intermediate with a prerequisite in Peyote.

The cost of this workshop is $90.00 and can be combined with other full day workshops with Melanie for a discounted rate.

BACK ON THE CHAIN GANG with Melanie Potter

Saturday, September 6, 2014 - 10 am to 4 pm

Revisiting the "layered chain" look that inspired the original Chain Gang necklace set, this new grouping of chains took on a bolder character. The longest chain is a series of hexagons stitched to a length long enough to clip-on around the neck and terminates in a three-dimensional match-box tassel with faceted elongated beads making up the fringe. The middle length chain marries tubular peyote and chevron chain to create a repeated pattern decorated with laser cut ornamentation. The shortest chain is a bejeweled tube and terminates with end caps and a clasp featuring a faceted square stone to secure it.

The skill level for this workshop is Intermediate with a prerequisite knowledge in peyote and chevron chain..

The cost of this workshop is $90.00 and can be combined with other full day workshops with Melanie for a discounted rate.

Please welcome Diane Dennis to Studio Beads!

GLITZ NECKLACE with Diane Dennis

Thursday, September 18, 2014 - 10 am to 4 pm

What started as a mistake in a purchase of crystals in the wrong size led to this new piece! This piece is very comfortable to wear dressed up or down.

Create a layered bezel that will be embellished with beads and then you will connect one to another in a slightly curved fashion. Bezel the crystal pearls and then connect the bezeled pearls between the crystals. It is your choice if you want to add the dangling chain and pearls.

Suspend your bezeled crystals from a necklace strap of herringbone, make a self-closure or add a purchased clasp if desired.

This is an intermediate beading level beading project. You must have knowledge of peyote stitch and with stepping up.

The cost of this workshop is $90 and can be combined with other full days of workshops with Diane for a discounted price.

Create this classy and most definitely fun to wear bracelet using seed beads and glass pearls. It's your bracelet and it's all up to you! Overall width of the bracelet is about 7/8 of an inch.

An intermediate knowledge of herringbone is required.

The cost of this workshop is $45 and can be combined with the other half day workshop to be considered a full day and be combined with the other full day workshops for a discount.

STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT with Diane Dennis

Suspend your star set from a necklace strap of tubular Ndebelle/herringbone stitch; close your necklace with a hidden clasp that is part of the design.

There are two ways to wear this necklace; with the stars centered or off center - it doesn't matter it's your necklace - wear it your way!

This necklace was inspired by a piece of jewelry Ashley Judd wore in the movie De-Lovely.
