WE ARE SO EXCITED TO GIVE YOU THE PROJECTS AND DATES FOR MELANIE POTTER.

FLAME D'AMORE PENDANT NECKLACE by Melanie Potter

Thursday, September 10, 2015 - 10 am to 4 pm

This flaming pendant necklace is ablaze with glittery zircons and licking flames. The center of the large pendant is an oval faceted zircon secured in place by a peyote bezel embellished with two layers of fringing. The backside of the bezel is covered in an unique webbing stitch. Radiating around the stone are colored flames stitched in brick stitch using cylinder beads and shaped to resemble a licking flame.

The smaller pendant is formed with a triangle base featuring an embellished zircon in a snap setting. This smaller pendant connects the large pendant to the necklace.

The necklace is strands of braided seed beads which attach with loops to a triangle compression clasp resembling the small pendant to create a pleasing composition. This necklace includes a matching pair of earrings.

This workshop is $90.00 and should you sign up for additional workshops with Melanie, the workshops will be discounted.

PALAZZO LANTERNA NECKLACE with Melanie Potter

Friday, September 11, 2015 - 10 am to 4 pm

(Melanie's entire description will be forthcoming.)

Lanterns served a critical role in times past. They literally illuminated exterior and interior spaces prior to electrical lighting. Today they serve a more ornamental role.

Translated Palace Lantern, this pendant necklace is inspired by the ornate wrought iron lanterns gracing the facade on a variety of Italian buildings or palaces dating back to the 1400's. Specifically the Palazzo Strozzi, Palazzo Guadagni in Florence and the Palazzo Baroni in Lucca, boast these types of marvelous works.

Palazzo Lanterna is a 3-dimensional lantern pendant with an open interior and brilliant stones providing support to the whole structure. Scrollwork follows twirling paths along the facade of the lantern to produce visual interest and color. The top and bottom are cupolas, shaped like a pyramid which attach the bail at the top and three ornate swirls at the bottom. There is so much more to learn!

This workshop is $90.00 and should you sign up for additional workshops with Melanie, the workshops will be discounted.

POMPONIA'S PEARLS NECKLACE with Melanie Potter

Saturday, September 12, 2015 - 10 am to 4 pm

In early and classical Rome, pearls were so highly prized, they were considered the ultimate symbol of wealth, social standing, and prestige. There were worn only by those considered fitting the higher echelons of society.

This design is named after the dignified and lovely Roman citizen, Pomponia Graecina, in the historical novel Quo Vadis, who adopted a little girl and loved her like her own daughter into adulthood. The knitted bond of love between them is a very touching picture of grace. With this in mind, the necklace was designed to be a graceful representation of ornamentation of that day but with a modern twist.

The necklace is a thick band of pearls resembling a ribbon. The scalloped edging is created using a scallop stitch the entire length of the band. Tassels, which dates back thousands of years, are a wonderful addition to a design to add fluid movement. The tassel in Pompania's Pearls is a three dimensional flat shape with two layers so that the pearl embellishments flair out slightly creating a skirt and a modulating shape in the finial.

This workshop is $90.00 and should you sign up for additional workshops with Melanie, the workshops will be discounted.
